Steel properties
High Speed Steel with high molybdenum and carbon. It has high wear resistance, high red hardness and good toughness. With its low vanadium content, this grade has very good grindability.
 
Applications
Tools exposed to high mechanical wear, for example for machining small sections at high cutting speeds. High performance for die milling cutters, copy bars and turned bars for free cutting. Non-cutting forming tools, for example punches for cold extrusion and tools for machining aircraft construction materials (titanium alloys, etc.)
 


For complex geometry tools and for cold forming tools it is recommended that hardening temperatures near the lower limit of the indicated range should be used. The austenisation temperatures shown are valid for salt bath quenching. For vacuum quenching, it is recommended that they be reduced by 10 to 30 deg.C.
